Clebopride

Flatoril is composed of clebopride (an antiemetic and prokinetic) and simethicone (an antiflatulent), and belongs to the group of drugs for gastrointestinal functional disorders called propellants. It prevents gas formation and stimulates gastrointestinal motility which helps to expel gas from the stomach and intestine.
Cases of acquired methemoglobinemia (blood disorder affecting its ability to carry oxygen) due to orthopramides (group of drugs to which Flatoril belongs) have been described in newborns.
There is insufficient information available on the use of this drug in pregnant women and whether it is excreted in breast milk. For this reason, as a precautionary measure, it is preferable to avoid its use during pregnancy, especially during the first 3 months of pregnancy.
– For the preventive treatment of excess gas in radiological examinations of the gastrointestinal tract: 1 capsule (500 micrograms of clebopride and 200 mg of simethicone) 2 hours before the test.

Una comparación cruzada a doble ciego de Flatoril, una mezcla de dimeticona (200 mg) y cleboprida (0,5 mg) frente a placebo demostró claramente la superioridad de la actividad antiespumante del primero, tanto en términos de reducción de la distensión gástrica como de mejora de la visualización de órganos que de otro modo quedarían ocultos por el estómago lleno de espuma.
