Parque los molinos madrid

activities in madrid

Where Calle de Alcalá begins to feel its end, 28 hectares of pure peace and calm await us. A green space that responds to the name of La Quinta de los Molinos and that in its discretion awaits its best virtue. It appears in few photographs, certainly not in any postcard, but it is one of the most beautiful and grateful parks in Madrid.
However, the clear protagonists are two mills brought from the United States and that give name to this space. Used to extract water from wells and subway springs to irrigate the park, their reddish metal structures stand out against the green surroundings. The Molino de la Casa del Reloj (Clock House Mill) and the Molino de la Rosaleda de Palacio (Palace Rose Garden Mill), as they are called, unwittingly baptized another of Madrid’s great secrets. A little-known and little-traveled park but thanks to the solitude that gives us has become a haven of peace, on the banks of the energetic Calle de Alcalá.

After his death and after remaining semi-abandoned for some time, the park was ceded in 1980 to the Madrid City Council, which dedicated a quarter of its surface to residential construction.
If you dare, you will have the opportunity to enjoy a walk through this little known place in Madrid surrounded by this beautiful landscape, but yes, it will be a walk in which you will not be alone…

The park has an area of 25 hectares divided into two areas: a northern area full of romantic landscapes and a southern area of agricultural character. If you walk through its interior, at every step you will have a different type of tree by your side, since its wooded areas include pines, olive trees, eucalyptus, cypresses and of course almond trees.
In its northern area there is also a 20th century mansion, with gardens, flowers and an extension of lawn. There is also a pond, a mill (as mentioned before) and a building called «Casa del Reloj» (Clock House). Entering the Quinta de los Molinos is magical, we recommend starting the route from the main entrance, following the paved path to the mansion, or get lost in one of its dirt roads to discover its hidden beauty.
