La herrería el escorial

Most people take the other trail, the one that indicates to go to the Silla de Felipe II, which is actually more direct. The hike is just as feasible starting from this trail as well. Since it is circular you can do the outward direction by this one and return later by the one we described initially.
Of course: on the way there or back do not miss this path because, at least when we went, it was quieter, there were fewer hikers and you cross wonderful landscapes. We only met a few cows grazing and a couple of mushroom hunters.
The landscape, adorned with a bit of mist, and the color contrast between the green moss covering the large stone boulders that dot the path and the reddish leaves of the deciduous trees is really striking.
The dirt track ends at a natural viewpoint on huge stones from which you can see not only the town of El Escorial and the surrounding trees and mountains, but the Silla de Felipe II itself. A truly marvelous panoramic view (and the site is less crowded than the famous Silla, by the way).

Routes: a healing walk through the forest of La Herrería in El EscorialThe biodiversity of this natural environment located in the vicinity of the monastery of El Escorial gives it a high potential for health and regeneration.
Very close to the monastery of El Escorial, the natural space of La Herrería invites us to immerse ourselves in a diverse forest mass. Oaks, ash trees, holm oaks, Montpellier maples, junipers, cherry trees or willows are some of the species that populate the lands that in the times of Felipe II were part of a reserve destined to be a royal hunting reserve, pastures dedicated to livestock and an orchard area for the monks.

The Herrería forest is another classic in the mountains of Madrid, in #CasaNit we have gone many times to the recreation area of the chair of Felipe II, next to the Hermitage, where there are some tables (better go to the farthest from the fountain and the Hermitage because on weekends there are many people) to have a picnic on the weekend and enjoy the countryside and tranquility.
But this time we have made a very nice and simple route that you will love because it reaches the chair of Philip II and even passes through a bear cave!  It is a walk of about 6 kilometers, with low slope, 120 meters, very fun to do with and without the kids of the house.
In about 20 minutes you are at the top where the viewpoint of Felipe II is located. It is said that the monarch chose this point on the granite rocks to observe the evolution of the works of the Escorial Monastery, surrounded by a leafy grove of ancient trees and in the background the Abantos mountain, one of the great natural monuments of the mountains.
