Juan-Miguel Villar Mir ha anunciado hoy que dejará la Presidencia y el Consejo de Administración de OHL en los próximos días, proponiendo como sucesor, a la Comisión de Nombramientos y Retribuciones de la compañía, a Juan Villar-Mir de Fuentes, actual vicepresidente del grupo de concesiones y construcción.
La relevancia del anuncio se debe a que Villar Mir ha ocupado este cargo durante 29 años -primero en Obrascón y luego en OHL durante los últimos 17 años- el mismo periodo de tiempo que lleva vigente el grupo de concesiones y construcción desde su creación en 1999.
Tras la entrada de Lain, Juan-Miguel Villar Mir, a finales del siglo XX, culminó un grupo empresarial que, aunque fundado sobre tres marcas históricas de la construcción -Obrascón, Huarte y Lain (OHL)- era en realidad el resultado de la fusión de once empresas del sector.
En el presente siglo, bajo las directrices de Juan-Miguel Villar Mir, OHL se ha convertido en una de las constructoras españolas más internacionalizadas, con presencia en 30 países de todo el mundo, donde se genera más del 96% de su EBITDA total y el 82,6% de sus ingresos.

In UNO Podemos they are not willing to let Juan Carlos I’s entourage escape from justice. Following the Carol Piece in which Corinna and Villarejo are imputed, now the purple party demands the Judge who instructs the case in the Audiencia Nacional, to impute the cousin of the King Emeritus Álvaro de Orleans, and the businessman Juan Miguel Villar Mir. He is the president of Grupo Villar Mir and founder of the construction company OHL and was Minister and Vice President of the first Government after Franco.
Podemos has requested Judge Manuel García-Castellón not to file the case of the alleged assignment of the King Emeritus’ friend Corinna Larsen to the retired commissioner José Manuel Villarejo, and to summon the businessman Juan Miguel Villar Mir and the cousin of the King Emeritus Juan Carlos I, Álvaro de Orleans, to testify as investigated in the so-called ‘Carol’ piece.
The origin of his business success is to be found half a century ago when he became president of Altos Hornos de Vizcaya. For this company, he acquired the construction company Obrascón in 1973, buying it from the Banco de Bilbao. When in 1987 he set out to create the Villar Mir Group, it was this construction company that was the seed of everything. He acquired it from Altos Hornos for the symbolic price of one peseta. However, he left Altos Hornos earlier, in 1975, to jump into politics again to become Vice-President for Economic Affairs and Minister of Finance in the Government of Arias Navarro, the first after Franco’s death, between December 1975 and July 1976.
