This Thursday night, El Príncipe became a trending topic. It sneaked in among the main trends such as those referring to the gala of Gran Hermano VIP, Cuéntame or any other broadcast of the evening. But with the peculiarity that Telecinco is not broadcasting El Príncipe. Why was it TT?
The answer is a promo. The network decided to launch a promotional spot for the return of the series during one of the commercial breaks of Gran Hermano VIP. It was the typical spot in which no date is specified – «coming soon»-, but the thousands and thousands of fans of this series could not resist the urge to comment on it. So, from that promo, El Príncipe became a trending topic throughout the country.
Under normal conditions, January is usually a month of television premieres. The problem is that in this 2016 advertising revenues in all networks are being lower than expected, so January has passed without glory in terms of new television bets. Just take a look: Chiringuto de Pepe, Cuéntame, Gran Hermano VIP and Bajo Sospecha, and Casados a primera vista have been the main bets of the major networks. Little material that shows that the warehouses must be full of series and programs ready to be broadcasted while waiting for advertising revenues to improve (which they will).
