In addition to this new building, the Hospital 12 de Octubre is carrying out the complete renovation of the adult emergency building, which has a budget of 5 million euros and is about to be completed, together with the renovation of the Auditorium, with a capacity for more than 500 attendees.
Subsequently, work will be carried out in the Medical Oncology and Radiation Oncology areas, for the outpatient care of cancer patients, which will have infrastructures with «the highest standards of quality and humanization».
Escudero recalled that the comprehensive renovation project of the 12 de Octubre Hospital began in 2006 with the construction of the Technical Facilities Building and continued in 2011 with the start-up of the Outpatient Activities Center, for outpatient consultations, diagnostic tests, day hospitals and major outpatient surgery.

The Occupational Risk Prevention Service of the Hospital Universitario 12 de Octubre (former Area 11), was officially established on April 29, 2002 with 3 occupational physicians, 5 occupational nursing graduates, 1 nursing supervisor, 1 intermediate technician, 1 senior technician specializing in Safety and 1 administrative assistant. Since then we have continued building it, growing and trying to give it the shape we like.
At present, we are 5 specialists in Occupational Medicine, 7 residents – in addition to the rotating ones -, 5 specialists in occupational nursing, 1 Senior Technician in the specialty of Safety, 1 Senior Technician in the specialty of Hygiene, 1 Nursing Supervisor and 1 Head of the Service. We have a protocolized program of the Psychiatry Service in the psychiatric and neuropsychological assessment of our cases.
Being our desire to continue advancing and being aware that this form of dissemination can allow us to improve, we use it as a means of information on occupational risk prevention aimed at professionals.

Atención al paciente hospital 12 de octubre

Se dispone de una Unidad de Vías Aéreas para realizar estudios del sueño mediante polisomnografía o monitorización del sueño a domicilio con equipos de ventilación totalmente equipados. El tratamiento de la obstrucción de la vía aérea superior es seguido de cerca y tratado con cirujanos pediátricos (Dr. Pacheco), cuidados intensivos pediátricos, ORL, anestesiología infantil, cirujanos maxilofaciales y equipo de cirujanos plásticos.
El asesoramiento prenatal se realiza de forma rutinaria con las Clínicas de Patología Fetal (Dr. Galindo) en las que todas las especialidades se reúnen para discutir los hallazgos prenatales y desarrollar el mejor plan de tratamiento para la madre y el niño. Existe una estrecha colaboración entre la enfermera especialista, el trabajador social, el psicólogo y el psiquiatra dentro del equipo para la derivación temprana, la detección y el tratamiento del paciente y/o de los padres. Las unidades de Traumatología y Ortopedia con el equipo de Rehabilitación Infantil realizan el tratamiento de las malformaciones asociadas. El cribado genético se ofrece de forma rutinaria a todos los pacientes y familiares, con la opción de participar en la investigación genética en curso mediante el intercambio de datos con otras unidades.
