erste verteidigungsministerin spaniens: carmen chacón, ist tot

Carme Chacón knew what it was like to stand up to machismo. She did it by becoming the first woman to head the Ministry of Defense in April 2008. And she did so seven months pregnant, just eight weeks before giving birth to her son Miquel. The news was so surprising that even the international press echoed something that until then was unheard of in our country: Zapatero had put a woman at the head of the most traditionally male ministry and he had done so knowing that she was in the final stretch of her pregnancy.

interview with josep borrell in el país

Zapatero asked for unity but the truth is that in the PSOE, as the Congress approaches, the tension is evident. An article published yesterday in El País against Carme Chacón and her entourage uncovers the box of thunder.yesterday the socialists had breakfast with this information in El País, a media that is traditionally considered to be allied with Rubalcaba. There was talk of Carmen Chacón’s environment, which raises deep suspicions in a sector of the party, especially her husband Miguel Barroso.
Rubalcaba said that at the dinner held last night with José Luis Rodríguez Zapatero the current party leadership spoke “little” of the Congress, precisely because the two candidates were present, who sat each one in the place they are always assigned, by protocol.
At the dinner, he said, there was an “emotional, personal” and “very nice” farewell speech by Zapatero, which was answered by Manuel Chaves in his capacity as president of the party. Rubalcaba has taken the opportunity to make clear that Zapatero is having an “exquisite neutrality” in this process, as it corresponds to his condition of general secretary.

gabilondo: “chacón, a generous and intelligent sacrifice”.

Social networks are fuming with a photograph of the Minister of Defense, Carme Chacón, which has received the corresponding Photoshop treatment, with results, to say the least, picturesque.
The perpetrators of the image, Ximena Garrigues and Sergio Moya, explain that “although it may seem so, the right leg is not crossed over the left. In fact, it is the right leg that passes behind the left,” they point out. The magazine even dares to explain how to pose like Carme Chacón.
